Taohe Inkstone (洮河硯, Chinese: Táohé yàn)

One of the four most famous inkstones in China. The other three are: Duan inkstone (端硯, Chinese: Duān yàn) from Guandong province (広東省), She inkstone (歙硯, Chinese: Shè yàn) from Anhui province (安徽省), and Chengni inkstone (澄泥硯, Chinese: Chéng ní yàn) Shandong province (山東省). Táohé inkstones are made from jade colour stones mined from the bottom of the river Tao. They are very rare and quite expensive. Due to the fact that the stones used for their production lay under the water for centuries, if not longer, Tao inkstones have extremely low water absorption ability, which is one of the main features of a good inkstone. She inkstones are made in Gansu province (甘粛省). Please click here to read more about inkstones.
