Rice paper

Erroneous name given by the Western world to 宣紙 (Chinese: Xuān zhǐ, i.e. Xuan paper) calligraphy paper, which was invented around the 8th century during Tang dynasty (唐朝, 618 – 907). None of its ingredients is (or should be) rice. If it were so, Xuan paper would not last thousands of years, and would not be insect resistant.
