Nodo (喉, のど, i.e. “throat”)

A narrow part of the brush tuft, formed by shorter inner hair and longer outer hair layers. It allows for the ink to be soaked in to the “stomach” (腹, はら, hara), and then to be gradually released during writing. Please click here to read more about calligraphy brush.
