Hara (腹, はら, stomach)

The internal part of the brush tuft that holds the ink, which is gradually released during writing. Due to different hair lengths that the brush tuft is built of (long on the outside, then a shorter layer in between and a longer one in the centre), a space known as the “stomach” is formed. Please also see here to read more on brush anatomy.
