Hakubun (白文, はくぶん, lit. “white text”)

Hakubun is a seal imprint in intaglio, leaving white (白) text (文) imprints on the paper after pressing it. Hakubun seal is the opposite of the shubun (朱文, しゅぶん, lit. “red text”), which is a seal in relief. Hakubun represents the female side of the Universe “Yin” (陰, shadow), whereas shubun its male counterpart known as “Yang” (陽, sun). Both types of seals (in Japanese 判子, はんこ, hanko) are commonly used in calligraphy. Please also refer to hanko.
