Grass script

This is the incorrect name for the cursive script (草書, そうしょ, sōsho). One of the meanings of the character 草 is indeed “grass”, however, it is not the one commonly used to describe cursive hand (despite the fact that cursive script may look like grass leaves in the wind). Another meaning of the kanji 草 is “draft”, as in “draft script”, which is derived from it being used originally to put down memo notes or glosses, in a rather careless manner.
