Bokudō (墨堂, ぼくどう, “ink temple”)

The elevated part of the inkstone (硯, すずり, suzuri) where the inkstick is rubbed (mixed) with water in order to prepare liquid ink. The prepared ink is then pushed down to the “ink pond” (墨池, ぼくち, bokuchi) and stored for later writing.
