Bokuchi (墨池, ぼくち, “ink pond”)

Mini2:b4_bokuchi.jpg"Bokuchi: | "

The indentation of an inkstone (硯, すずり, suzuri) designated for storing prepared ink for later writing (though some calligraphers incorrectly use it also for rubbing the inkstick with water). Liquid ink of satisfactory density and consistence is pushed down from the ink temple (墨堂, ぼくどう, bokudō) where it is rubbed (mixed) with water, into the “ink pond” (or “ink well”).
