Shuboku (朱墨, しゅぼく, i.e. “red ink”)

Red ink used mainly by teachers for preparing tehon (手本, てほん, i.e. “examples for students to copy”) or for correcting works presented by students. Originally, red ink was used for writing on stones prior to carving. Please click here to read more about ink.
