Shofu

Shofū (書風, しょふう, i.e. “one’s personal writing style”)

One’s personal style, which could be understood as handwriting. In Far Eastern calligraphy however, it is much more than that. Shofū does not only reveal the character and personality of the calligrapher, but also his skill and passion, which inject life and motion into the written characters. 書風 is developed through years of diligent studies of 臨書 (りんしょ, rinsho, i.e. “copying masterpieces”).
