Koshi (腰, こし, i.e. “loins”)

One of the most important parts of the brush, located at the base of the tuft. The “loins” play a crucial role during writing, and if the hair is not flexible and strong enough, then the whole brush will lose its vitality and responsiveness. “The loins” is one of the crucial parts of the brush to be checked during purchase.
