Gyoki

Gyōki (行気, ぎょうき, i.e. “moving spirit”)

Gyōuki stands for the smooth and undisturbed energy (気) flow or its movement (行) within one character, from one character to another, and finally, within the entire work. Gyōki is an indication of perfect harmony, power, vigor, and passion of the artist, with the natural spirituality of calligraphic work. It is a reflection of the forces of nature in the black brushstrokes.
